Who we are

The Davis Relief Fund was developed in October, 2024 by the Robert Davis family of Old Fort, NC. It came about as their efforts to help the town after Hurricane Helene quickly became an effort with much larger needs than anticipated.

The Sunday after the hurricane hit the region the family opened their store and cafe to run an aid distribution site and free hot meal kitchen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As they served the community and first responders they realized there were several individuals and families that were now unhoused, either by the storm or the local government after the storm. Most of these families would not leave their property for one major reason or another, usually to protect farm animals and private property, and were willing to stay in tents and in their vehicles where they were through the winter while they rebuilt.

The following week the nights dipped into the high 20’s and the family realized the focus needed to shift from feeding the community to housing the community. Through local builders, distributors, and contractors they came up with the plan for Relief Cabins. These self contained cabins arrive to the property fully insulated, finished inside, with electric through generator (included) and a bathroom with a bucket sink and composting toilet (included).

With our continued efforts and your support the fund will soon have an inventory of Relief Cabins that will house many individuals and families through the winter safely, and then be able to be warehoused after their need is no longer here to serve in the next relief effort that may come to our state.
